Exhalation, 2024

Magnesium ingots

The sculpture Exhalation is made entirely of magnesium ingots produced by the Dead Sea Works from the distillation of seawater. Littwitz returned the ingot sculpture to the sea from which it was created, starting an oxidation process that gradually breaks down the magnesium into a white powder. The Dead Sea water seems to decompose itself and dissolve its own resulting pure magnesium.
